Migrating to melbourne Australia, family of 4, how much money to bring? |
Travel Info Where are the cheaper area to stay in Melbourne? Can a Permanent resident (p.R) get job in the goverment sector? Travel Tips I came to Aussie in 2000. All together, starting again, car, furniture, daily living, buying even the towels anew, kitchen stuff, bed stuff, TVs, the lot I mean, family of 5, I employed a good 75,000 in two years from what I had, without considering the house I then bought. But then I had a good job. Now prices on food and petrol have doubled. Work relations new legislations have struck at the workers, and the work conditions are all in favour of the employers now. Wages are lowering as a consequence. Standard of living is getting worse, not better. Housing is cheaper in the western suburbs, even though it is catching up. I can recommend Caroline Springs, Burnside, Deer Park, Cairnlea as good and elegant places to rent without breaking the bank. Closer to downtown it is near to impossible. Greed is the major human feeling in this place, and everyone is in on it. I believe that for the government sector it is becoming more and more demanding in terms of residency vs. citizenship. But a look at the job offers will reveal the truth. But even there most positions are in the hands of recruitment agencies ... mafia ... Sorry if I might set you off. Good luck. http://jobs.careerone.com.au/texis/jobse... http://mycareer.com.au/jobs/by-job-searc... P.S. I'm considering going away from this place and moving to Mexico. Am I crazy? Others Everything you have, of course! The cost of living is not as high as in England, but things are getting more and more expensive here now, because of certain factors. Yesterday was Budget night, and there was lots of good news, but you must be warned that the cost of water is going to go up here very soon, and that will push everything else up. Let me give you some examples: a litre of petrol costs $1.30, a frozen chicken costs $7.00, 500gm of real butter cost $2.00, 500gm of marg costs about the same, a kilo of rump steak costs about $19.00, a pair of ordinary socks for a child costs about $3.00 Find out today's rate of exchange and you will see what I mean. A cinema ticket is $13.00 for an adult, less for a child. A bag of crisps from a supermarket (large) will cost about $2.40. A litre of milk is $1.45. A loaf of sliced bread is about $2.30 I could tell you more, but I must go to bed now! I know a lot about Perth, because it's where I live, but I was in Melbourne for about 3 years and it's a great town. Yes - you can work for the government on a permanent residency, but that will change soon. The Western suburbs in Melbourne are cheaper, and south is cheaper than North. The inner city suburbs are now rather swanky and expensive. Bentleigh is a nice suburb with good schools, but it's probably more expensive now than when I lived there. Good night Good luck |
