Travel Info
ok guys...I live in Queensland (sunshine coast to be exact) and I am planning to move to Melbourne for University in a few years to try to get into either

Journalisim or tourisim as well as umpiring AFL (gunna try to get to the top!!)

I may have plans for somewhere to board but I will be looking for somewhere for my self....alone.

So where would be a safe, affordible place in Melbourne to rent and if possible, cole to the city (so I can watch the footy and get to Uni fast)

thanks guys

The top journalism school in Australia is Charles Sturt University at Bathurst in NSW. Macquarie Uni comes a good second. Melbourne has some great universities but I don't think any of them are noted for tourism. Southern Cross in northern NSW and James Cook in Townsville both do tourism.

You will need to be in Melbourne to learn to be the subject of abuse by thousands when you make a stupid decision that costs their team a goal. Good luck, you might be a rarity - an unbiased umpire who knows the rules.

As far as renting in Melbourne, many of the inner suburbs are popular with students as they all have good public transport. You will probably need to share to afford anything reasonable.

Hi,correct me if I am wrong do you intend to be a Journalist?
Good luck Waltz.
Get a Melbourne newspaper....start checking places out. Take a trip there soon and scope the place out. As a uni student, you may not be able to afford a place on your own. Why not go to Bond Uni? It's closer to you and they have a good program. I did graduate work there. Great school.
i live in qld too. i go to uni at uq, which i think is a great school. whats the need to get to melbourne - is it for afl? you mention its not for a few years - why dont you go to melbourne and try umpiring for a bit and come back to qld and do uni. i think it would be quite difficult to combine uni and trying to become a top umpire?? not sure but if it involves working your way to the top then theres probably a lot of unpaid work involved - something probably not that attractive while at uni. good luck !
If you're looking for something cheap near the city, you may have a bit of trouble!! I would possibly look at share housing or something... Try this:

Or if you do have your heart set on renting yourself...

I suggest Yarraville, Seddon, Newport or Footscray.

They are in the western suburbs, but close to the city, which makes rent there cheaper than the inner city suburbs.
