What is the cost of living like in Australia? |
Travel Info I plan to move there and need to know what sallary to settle for. I plan to stay in Melbourne. Travel Tips The cost of living in Melbourne is good. Public transport is cheaper than Sydney - $6.10 for a daily ticket in zone 1 Petrol at the moment is about $1.29 a litre Carton of milk costs around $2 Plenty of markets around that stock fresh fruit, vegetables and meat. Housing I think is the most expensive thing here, 2 bedroom apartments can cost anything from $200 - $700K depending on where they are located. to rent, it can cost from $200-$600 per week, dependant on where they are located. Im quite happy living here, plenty to do and see. I agree with the above poster, Sydney is alot more expensive than Melbourne and I would never live there again, plus the fact that I find Sydney very unfriendly Source(s): Im a melbournian, lived all over Australia and wouldnt live anywhere else Other Travel Tips Compared to the USA its not cheap ! the cost of liveing in Sydney is a hell of alot more than say Indy IN. It will also depend on the type of life style ya wnat when your here.... eg: more west ya live out from sydney it does get cheaper, closer to the coast the cost of liveing goes up. Thou if ya move right away from the capital cities the cost of liveing can be alot more cheaper. I live in Indianapolis IN USA and Sydney NSW Australia depends on what type of job the salary you should settle for. you can live easily for $50,000 in melbourne for 1 person although if you have a good profession dont settle for anything less than $90,000 by the way, good choice moving to melbourne it is a wonderful city and is very friendly and livable. Well how long is a piece of string? Assuming you want to rent a place and live by yourself, go out on weekends and money to generally live, it is concievable to get by on about $500 a week, which is $20,000 a year. But you would be spending your entire paypacket if you did that. Realisticaly, your would want closer to $600-$700 a week ($35,000) to really have a good time. Having said that, I'm a student and I suvive on my own for $300 a week! So there are ways to cut corners. |
