Travel Info How long does it take if the traffic is bad? I arrive at Avalon airport at 7.30am and need to know how long it will take me to make it into the city for an appointment. The traffic is pretty good until you get to Hoppers Crossing, about 15 mins up the highway. then in good traffic, it is 15 mins to Melbourne ... so I added an extra 15 mins for traffic and finding your address NB. Any baggage should be carry on since waiting for cargo to be unloaded may slow you down by 15 mins Whilst I would basically agree with " wizebloke ", as a taxi driver I would quote 60 minutes in peak hour traffic to get to the City and a further 15 minutes to your final destination. True, " tentofield ", the bus is cheaper unless there are 3 passengers in the taxi but bear in mind that a taxi takes you from " door to door " which can be helpful if you're a first time visitor. The website provided by " Luke J " is more useful than the one I suggested for bus details. www.avalonairport.com.au There is no point in taking a budget airline to Avalon and then spending more than you did for the flight on a taxi to the city. Take the shuttle bus. Since it's a small airport there are no delays waiting on the tarmac for a gate. You should be out of the plane and in a taxi by 7:45 if you don't have carry-on. If you take a shuttle bus you have to wait for the passengers with checked luggage. It's normally about 25 minutes to Laverton at any time of the day and a further 20 minutes to the city on a light day, 35 minutes in peak, or 60 on a day with a break down or accident near the Westgate Bridge. There is a further 10-15 minutes negotiating city streets. Get your taxi driver to monitor the traffic and if the bridge is having a bad day get dropped off at Laverton Station (it's just off the freeway) and get the 8:19 (express) train to the city reaching Southern Cross at 8:34. Should save you time and about $30. |
