What is your opinion on water situation in melbourne?

Travel Tips
G'day,

It is bad and unfortunately I have to say that none of the state governments done anything much to fix the problem other than asking (and enforcing) ppl to use less water. I do agree that in principal, we cannot use anything excessively, but to get to these stages of water crisis?

C'mon... this is Australia! One of the western developed country and here we got a problem as simple as water?!! We are already being ridiculed by our next door neighbors countries, even the one that we are called "Developing countries".

Please-please-please... politicians... do something. Look at all the answerers!!! Something need to be done and soon!! B'cos of water drought, everything becomes expensive (eg, vegetables, b'cos no water)... it will ruin the economy as well.

I live about an hours drive from Melbourne and we have been on water restrictions for quite some time.I lived in Ireland for 14 years and came back home to Australia to live and found it really hard at the start as I had been living in a country where they basically have an endless supply of water to a place with barley no water, but now I am used to the situation.I think most people have to learnt to accept that green lawns, beautiful gardens ,long hot showers in the winter and long cold showers in the summer are unfortunately a thing of the past for the time being(I hope).Where I am living they didn't open the local outdoor swimming pool as they didn't have the water to fill it,which to me shows how bad our water situation really is.Where I am living the biggest thing at the moment is people boring for water and alot of people are not impressed by it.Our next door neighbour had people drilling for bore water and a whole heap of the locals were at the front of their house calling them names where the police had to be called. I can understand farmers using bore water as we all need to eat but to me it does make me sick to my stomach to think that people are boring water just so that they can have a garden with flowers and green grass.(I just don't get it).
my opinion is they need the bloody rain

SEND IT DOWN HUEY!!!

and not just in Melbourne, Brisbane has had level 5 water restrictions for some time now - thinking about making it level 6 - next level they wont be able to drink from the tap
Anyone can have as much opinion as they like. If there is NO WATER, no opinion will make it reappear.

And why are you repeating yourself? You ask the same question three times. Is the lack of water affecting your cognitive ability? <EG>
My opinion is that the powers that be should have done something about it a long time ago, and not let it get to this situation, i.e having contingency plans in place.
Everything has been done that could reasonably have been expected to be done. The long range weather forecasts suggest that the rains we need will fall soon, if not.....?
I think the government has been slow to act on restrictions in melbourne compared with the rest of Victoria. Just down the road at Aireys Inlet drinking water has to be trucked in for goodness sakes - while Melbournians are inventing new levels just to avoid going onto level 4 restrictions! I would consider it a state emergency and it should be treated as such. What's wrong with Bracks?
