How can I get a job in Melbourne?

I'm looking for a job as a kitchenhand or whatever, but I don't know how to get a job in Melbourne. As soon as possible, I wanna get a job, so if you have some information, please let me know!

Unless you have the right visa, you'll find it very difficult to get employment in Melbourne, or anywhere else in Australia. We have very strict immigration laws & you might find yourself being sent home on the next flight, immediately deported without even officially entering the country, without the correct visa.

Work visas are difficult to get & are usually only available to working holiday visa holders or certain categories of student visa holders & have restrictions such as a) work limited to 20 hours p.w. for students or b/ 3 month limit in any one job for working holiday. This second category is aimed at getting seasonal workers for agriculture, so can be often in rather remote areas.

Having said this, it is worth noting that we do have very low unemployment at the moment & have a shortage of workers, both skilled & unskilled.

The best thing for you to do is go where all the restaurants are, because they usually will have help wanted signs in the windows.

Go to a consulate near you and see what is available, in Melbourne, that you can and are qualified to do and willing to do.

Visa for Australia is on job availability basis, so they have list of personal shortage, if you can and will accept the jobs that are difficult to fill then you get the limited time job specific visa or are able to immigrate.
