We are about to drive from MELBOURNE TO PERTH ACROSS THE 'NULLABOR'. WE DONT KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT ?? |
Travel Info HOW OFTEN ARE THERE PETROL STATIONS AND WHAT ACCOMODATION IS THERE?? Travel Tips a long trip with nothing to look at most of the time take spare fuel & plenty of water & most of all STAY AWAKE Others I would highly recommend you take jerry cans of petrol with you when you cross the nullabor plain. The is miles of absolutely nothing at all. Technically, I don't think the Nullabor (Latin for no trees) starts until you reach South Australia. I travelled across it from Adelaide to Perth (by bus) and, while there were long stretches of nothing, I do recall stopping in very small places with nothing but a restaurant and gas/petrol station. The stretch from Kalgoorlie to Perth does have quite a few places where you can stop and, perhaps stay overnight. it is said that you can drive east-west across Australia in four days. for your journey some simple pre-cautions check your car thoroughly, particularly tyres and cooling system. check your spare tyre and tools. consider carrying a spare fan-belt and spare fuel. carry spare drinking water. you probably won't need it but it could save your life. 5 litres per person, 10 if convenient. carry blankets for emergency use. desert nights are cold. lastly, in the event of vehicle breakdown...remain near your vehicle. don't try to walk large distances except in dire emergency. |
