Melbourne, Australia housing? |
Travel Info I'll be staying in Melbourne from around Dec 27th-Feb7th 2007. Where is the best and cheapest housing for this length of stay, (not limited to hostels). Also, what other countries can I visit while there (New Zealand, etc) Travel Tips Australia is a very big and diverse place - rather than visit other countries you would be better off flying domestic around the country and checking it out. Try www.share-accommodation.net and you might be able to find something cheap to share for a few months. Send me an email if you need more help - I am in Melbourne. (captain74@yahoo.com) Others I stayed in Melbourne for six months once and they have these places called private hotels, which means you pay by the week, and,in my case, get a bedroom and living room with small attached kitchen(and it was cheap).Basically an apartment but without lease or deposit.Mine was on Fitzroy Street,St.Kilda and was called the Majestic Hotel.Couldn't say if it's still in business 'cause that was 25 years ago,but if some good hearted Aussie is reading this they can perhaps tell you if such places still exist. Hi, you could visit New Guinea, Bali, Fiji all the Islands Um, im not sure whether the Majestic is still there? Accomodation in the Fitzroy aea is a bit steep but we do have backpacker places around the city area are pretty reasonable, just get on a back packer site for oz, im sure you'll find something good luck You should check out St Kilda. You can get Share/self contained accomodation for about $100 a week. Other countries around us, are NZ, Indonesia, Japan, China, Tonga, Cooke Islands, Norfolk Island Lots of british back packers temping with me. The cheapest housing are the backpackers, and the ones I personally recommend are: http://www.basebackpackers.com/... http://www.yha.com.au/hostels/details.cf... I will check out other parts of Australia first (in priority): 1) Sydney (Opera House, Sydney Fish Market, Darling Harbour) 2) Brisbane/Gold Coast (Great Barrier Reef) 3) Byron Bay (Beach Town) 4) Alice Springs (Ayers Rock) 5) Tasmania (Hobart and Launceston) I think the only country near to OZ is New Zealand, but if you are coming from US or Europe, drop by (in priority): 1) Bangkok 2) Singapore 3) Kuala Lumpur Seasoned traveller |
