How much and what is the best way to carry Australian currency when migrating for the first time.? |
Travel Info Should I convert all my Indian rupees or withdraw from my banks (HSBC) overseas branches/atms. Travel Tips u cannot carry more that RS 10000 in cash through the indian customs. and never take indian Rs to australia, the exchange rate is very bad over there. ya convert all the money u have into travellers cheques, and u can deposit into ur account there very easily. if u need any help jus pm me.. u can draw a max of aud$ 500 from ur HSBC overseas card. ie. the limit. Others If you are migrating from India, you can carry USD.5000.00. If you have an a/c with HSBC, then you inform them so that you can withdraw the money from the nearest branch to you place of stay. Keep some cash with you to meet the routine expenses. You can also carry Travellers Cheque in different denominations too. If you're migrating, rather than just visiting, you won't be needing your rupees again, so you might as well convert them all. I would suggest carrying about $50-$100 on you, but it's a personal matter. It's generally safe to carry cash in Australian cities, so you should be fine carrying it in a wallet in your back pocket or a purse in your handbag (as is gender-appropriate). HSBC has a few branches in Australia, but you may want to open an account with a local bank. If you speak to your bank, they'll let you know what you can do in terms of using banks with reciprocal rights. I would recommend going through a specialist currency exchange firm that will transfer your funds at a good rate to a bank account that they assist you in opening in Australia.
