Is it safe for a teenage girl to go around the streets in Melbourne alone? What about public transport?

Travel Tips
It's usually okay during the day, but after dark either keep company or stay in well-lit and busy areas. Public transport is not a problem during the day but after dark, if using trains try to use to the front carriage - it seems to attract fewer scumbags. If alighting from a train, tram or bus in a not-so-busy area, make sure somebody is there to meet you.

Others
Won't risk it.
No, but I suggest you have someone older than you to accompany you in the streets, that's if you can trust them. As for public transport in the city, take a bus, tram, or taxi to get around.
It is always better to go with friends, when you are with a big group, you are more protected. Also being that You are only a teenage girl, there are still several more years needed to mature so that you do not get effected in the wrong way from the outside world, so when you are with friends that is less likely to happen.
it is okie
i have done it many times...
just try not to do it around 3 am as this is when all the fights happen (the drunks get out of the clubs at that time)
but it is quite safe here.
if possible try to get a group together... you will have more fun that way and feel more safe.

public transport is good here. if you buy a Daily (which i think is about $5 or something) you can travel on all the buses, trains and trams for the entire day

there is also a free tram called the City Circle, great to find out where things are in melbourne... also there are a few buses that are similar, but not sure if they are free.

hope you enjoy yor stay here.
During the day, it should be fine. I don't think any town is completely safe for a teenage girl, but as long as it's not night-time, it should be fine.

I would feel safe letting a teenage girl catch a tram at any time, but wouldn't want her on the trains after the post-business hour peak (which usually extends to about 7:30). Buses should also be fairly safe.
During the day, no problem, just sick to the main streets and avoid lanes and alleys.

Night time is dodgy where ever you are. I wouldn't do it and wouldn't like it if my daughter was planning this. Safety in numbers....

Public transport is the same thing. Stick to it when there are lots of people aboard.
