I am trying to find out about moving to Melbourne, Australia, any tips? ie: cost of living, websites w/ info? |
Travel Info I need sources for information regarding moving from the USA to Melbourne Australia. Travel Tips My brother actually just did this. Moved from Ohio, to Colorado, to Melbourne...he has been there about 2 years and LOVES it. I would say that most important thing is get your visa and work situation squared away. It's a long and difficult process and can be very costly. Do you have a job lined up that will provide you with a work visa? A regular holiday visa is only 3 months, I think, so you will need to find something more permanent. The guidelines for moving Down Under can be pretty strict and finding a job is not easy. When he moved, there was some visa guidelines like you had to have at least a Bachelor's and be working in your field for 5 years OR a Master's with at least 2 years experience. In the U.S., we have an unemployment rate because we have jobs available, but nobody that wants to work them. From what I hear from my brother, their unemployment rate is mostly because of a lack of jobs available for the citizens. To land a position with a company that will provide a work visa, you have to basically show that you are better qualified for the job than a citizen, otherwise, they could just hire them and not pay to sponsor your visa. I visited last year and it's an amazing place! Good Luck!! Others Do your own research. What do you think I am, a travel agent? Melbourne is a hole move to Queensland Hi, im form Australia. I think perhaps you should try doing a google search on Melbourne. Melbourne is an expensive place in certain parts. You need to have a plan on what kinda job you got there or have there and if there is living within that area so you only need to take public transport or drive. You also need to workout how much your willing to pay for a house in Melbourne. I live in the country about 3-4 hrs outa melbourne. We have alot of city people moving out here as its not as expensive out these parts. The houses in melbourne are selling for roughly 300,000 plus... The houses in the country are 150,000-300,000 so there for there getting big payouts and living cheap out here. Again the choice is up to you but id do alot of research on melbourne search sites. Perhaps try livinginmelbourne.com?? There is this one couple out here that sold there house in melb for 700,000 and brought a house out here for 120,000.... See instant saver! haha plus they got alot to live with too. Check out Melbourne's major newspaper http://www.theage.com. A good overview is available at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/melbourne...
