I want to move to Melbourne from the untied states? |
Travel Info ...whats it like there and where should i live in the city thats not ghetto... Travel Tips Sounds great. I hope you have a great experience. It helps to have a job ahead of time. It'll help you get your visa in a timely fashion. Look online or elsehwhere for jobs. Contact the Australian Embassy. Ask questions then start to file your paperwork. They'll issue you your visa before you leave. Good luck! Source(s): http://www.immi.gov.au/ Other Travel Tips Melbourne is a wonderful city that does not really have "ghetto" areas, although there are large underground caverns near the Casino (& Fidel's, that wonderful cigar emporium) where they store all the immigrants that cannot spell the names of their home countries! Congratulations on an excellent idea of moving here. I have travelled the world but I still call Melbourne home. For starters... we dont have ghetto's here, not like what USA experiences. We certainly have suburbs that have a specific nationality in that area... for instance... Springvale has a uniquely Asian influence, Richmond is predominantly vietnamese, The southern and eastern suburbs are middle class. We have the title of the worlds most liveable city and we are quite proud of it. We have more bars and pubs and restaurants than any other State in Aus. We are more friendly than Sydney but not as laidback as Adelaide. Winter can be cold, summer excrutiatingly hot..... but our beaches are fantastic. Some sites... http://visitvictoria.com http://visitmelbourne.com and hope you enjoy it here.... we all do. As the previous poster said, we don't have ghettos here. Some poorer suburbs but nothing like, say, Harlem, in NYC. This is a great city, it's got everything you'll ever need. Great facilities, great jobs, great weather, great for bringing up a family. I moved here 17 years ago and would never live anywhere else. I have lived in many places all around the world, and Melbourne was the best city. The great food, bars, clubs, sporting events, beaches..pretty much something for everyone. Melboune so does have Ghettos!!!!! It's not as bad as the US, but it scared me enough!!!! It's mostly around the Commission flats (high rises within 5-7kms of city) like Collingwood and Fitzroy. My friend lived around there and i stayed over one night, got woken by gun shots, a guy screaming insanity and the police squad breaking down doors armed with rifles etc. She told me not to be scared- it's normal.......I never stayed over again. Melbourne suburbs are great. I'd live in the city too if it weren't for the rent prices. Just stay away from the commission flats. |
