Renting in Melbourne?

Travel Info
I'm looking to rent a house or flat in Melbourne, on a short term (max 6 month) lease. Any suggestions on where to start?

Also forms of ID would I need to prove we are people who will pay the rent...! I'm a UK national so don't have Telstra bills etc etc or a Australian driving license.

Travel Tips
A UK Passport and any UK Photo Id like a drivers licence should be suitable ID .

If you have rented before in the UK or elsewhere , contact details of Company or Person whom you rented off would be a handy reference to have.

The rental market is getting a bit tighter in Melbourne now and rents are slowly going up .

The best value for money at present is in the outer suburbs .

Dandenong , Frankston or Broadmeadows are all good choices as the are well serviced by public transport and the local facilities are good .

Rachel's real estate Websites are a good method of locating property for rent and Local newspapers are also handy.

Saturdays Age & Herald Sun newpapers both have a good real estate section with properties for rent .

Others
I would start in Melbourne.
Do you want to be IN Melbourne or in the suburbs out of the city. Costs vary greatly by moving one suburb. Check out some of the real estate agents to get some prices

here is a site sor you to look at the suburbs surrounding melbourne

St Kilda (think 'secret life of us') is one of the more popular suburbs to rent in Melbourne. If this is too expensive try further out -Glen Waverly is probably as far out as you would want to go (think 'neigbours').

For your rent, a passport is a good start for ID, also ask about the option of paying a deposit bond.

Hope this helps, best of luck.

I'm sure your passport and drivers licence will suffice as id.

Cheers and enjoy your stay!
just look up real estates in melbourne - http://www.yellowpages.com.au/search/lis...
i would suggest renting in the northern or western suburbs coz its cheaper. get in contact with some real estates here & tell them what your looking for & what you might need. you might even beable to email them. Good luck!
