Travel Tips
my place...

i live in Flemington just a 15 min walk to the racecourse :)

seriously

.....not knowing your budget its hard to say

- for dirt cheap there are many hostels in Melbourne and inner Melbourne most you are able to book a private room.
- also try hotels in St Kilda, Richmond, North Melbourne and Carlton. not in the CBD but very close

if you have any questions about Melbourne feel free to email me

Depends on what you call breaking the bank
Lots of places are good. The Grand, is beautiful. and shouldn't be too expensive but book early
Ramada in Parkvile, its only 3.5KM from the centre of the city and is around $80 per night but is good quality and the city is easy to reach by both tram and bus.

hope this is of assistance in some way and best of luck in finding what your looking for.
if you havnt booked now it is all too late
Urban Central backpackers is a good, cheap deal......very central and clean.......I stayed there recently..... :-)
