Anyone travelled along the great ocean road in victoria australia? |
Travel Info i am looking for ideas esp between port campbell and portland? any good bargain accomodation? places to visit? eat? Travel Tips OMG I live there!!! I am going to assume that you are heading from Geelong to Portland.. (Sorry I am trying to do it in some sort of order for you!!) 1. Geelong There is the Wool Museum, which is interesting. The Mall Go Karting Clubs and pubs galour Smorges (while the food isn't the best the view is awesome!) Buckley's (this is a bistro but the food is good and the have entertainment on Fri & Sat night) 2. Portarlington The beach is beautiful, it is so flat, and the town is beautiful The local pub, they have the best meals ever, I would go back there just to eat! 3. Ocean Grove/Barwon Head The beach is awesome, and the chanel that runs between Ocean Grove Barwon Head, is nice. The set of Sea Change The Barwon Head Pub, which draws a good crowd, also they have good food A-Maze -n-Things 4. Torquay Famous Bells Beach Actually I enjoy heading down there and checking out the developments (the houses are fantastic!) The surf brands outlet stores Surfing 5.Aireys Inlet Light house 6. Lorne Great Beaches The Bottom Pub is a great place to eat at, and to party at especially during summer! Erskine Falls Cinema I would then head to Beech Forest (though not on the Great Ocean Road) and see the Otway Fly, and see some of the water falls such as Stevenson Falls. I would also recommend a day trip to Colac, they have a nice little lake and great places to eat, such as Culture or Cafe Nu Deli, and there is a cinema. Also Red Rock is beautiful, the volcanic area, there is a winery there which I highly recommend, also the Corangamite Lake which is the largest lake in Victoria and the floating islands are interesting. 7. Apollo Bay Really good seafood, any fish n' chip shop will do! A must see is Paradise it is simply extraordinary This is a really pretty town The Cape Otway Light house 8. Lavers Hill Glow worms!! 9. Moonlight Head For some reason I just love it there 10.Prince Town - Port Campbell This is awesome, you will love it, stop at each look out they are amazing! Some great stories along this stretch of coast Though Port Campbell is a cute little town, it is very expensive!! 11. Peterborough A nice little town to stop and visit there are lookouts between Port Campbell and Peterborough that you have to stop at. 12. Warrnambool While there isn鈥檛 much between Peterborough and Warnambool it is a different landscape to the rest of the Great Ocean Road, it is bush. Allansford cheese factory Whale watching Shopping Flagstaff Hill Lake Petrobe Tower Hill Reserve Port Fairy - I have heard it is cute but never been there I hope that this helps, as for accommodation, backpackers are always cheap! I am sorry I live there I have never needed accommodation. Also Dinning wise, all the pubs serve up a decent meal. Have fun and don鈥檛 be afraid to ask the locals for advice and help!!! Others thank you so much! we arrived back yesterday, and saw heaps, went as far as mt gambier! highly recommend dinner at mac's hotel in portland! i stayed at moonlight head back at easter and did the glow worms too. accom was approx $125 a night for 2 of us. loved the seal colony at cape bridgewater! There is no where cheap, only if you camp. You need a car to camp, and if you don't know it you are a tour is the best way to see it. It is magnificent. The wind down there blows straight off the Arctic The ONLY way to do that road is by motorbike. I put in the link for accommodation. http://www.stayz.com.au/accommodation/vi... The scenery is terrific, but if u r driving u don't get much time to see it. The road is good but windy and fairly narrow. Also in Holiday periods the traffic can b reasonable busy. No cheap accommodation that I have been able to find and I have been across 4 times. it is a tourist destination so every thing is pricey, but saying that it is a great trip and one of the top 10 road trips in Australia. PS Try some of the golf clubs for good quality food at reasonable prices |
