What do you know about Canberra, Australia? |
Travel Info I am doing a report on Canberra Australia and I don't know much. The internet does'nt really help and I dont have much time. Travel Tips G'day Zaikee13, Thank you for your question. Canberra was founded in 1913 as the national capital of Australia. It was selected in 1908 as the site for the capital as a compromise between Sydney and Melbourne. It is in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) which contains Canberra, some farming land and Namadgi National Park. The Ngunnawal and Walgalu tribes originally lived in the area and it was a rural area prior to its selection as the site of the national capital. It is a planned city designed by Walter Burley-Griffin. Its population is 323,645 as of 2004. It is both Australia's 8th largest city and its largest inland city. The Federal Government is its largest employer. It has been self-governing since 1989 and Jon Stanhope is the current Chief Minister. I have attached sources for your reference. If you have more specific questions that you would like answered, please e-mail me at the address on my Q and A page. ( keithold @ gmail.com should find me if you remove the spaces) I have lived in Canberra for 25 years and have detailed knowledge of it especially its history and politics. I Good luck with your report. Regards Regards Source(s): Wikipedia Canberra http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/canberra... Wikipedia History of Canberra http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/history_of_... ACT Government website http://www.act.gov.au/cap/accesspoint?ac... Answers.com http://www.answers.com/canberra&r=67... Other Travel Tips click here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/canberra... http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=a0geuuydfvjfah... depends on what you need to know ...cold winters warm summer 10 minutes from the city you are in the bush ..beautiful lakes and rivers ...lots of nice cafes and restaurants ..loads of embassies and plenty of attractions to see as a visitor ..Capital of australia with both old and new parliament houses.People in general are quite friendly house prices are generally the same as melbourne.. i could be me specific if i knew exactly what you needed to know its the capital and a very boring place Not much but i know lot about Melbourne . Which is where you have categorised this question I actually live in Canberra and the link to Wikipedia that others have provided gives you a good insite into the city. The only thing I could add is that Canberra is home to over 50 foreign Embassies or Consulates. The city is clean and well planned with little or no slum areas. A great percentage of employees work in the Government. Because of its isolation from the big cities and its relatively small population our choice of products is not as good as those in the major cities and most international acts (band etc) do not come here. |
