Who knows what life is like in Kilsyth near Melbourne, Australia?

Travel Info
We might move there later this year.

Travel Tips
Okay I live in the next suburb to Kilsyth, and love it. It's quiet close to a few shopping centres, the bigger ones being knox city (about 15 minutes drive) and Eastlands - Ringwood (about 15 minute drive in the opposite direction.
Also there is Chirnside Park Shopping Centre, which is pretty close as well, they have cinemas there, but the cinemas aren't as good as Knox City.
Kilsyth is really close to the Dandenong Ranges, where there are some beautiful restaurants and cafes, the views are gorgeous!!!
There are a few gyms, basketball stadium, the schools are okay as well, if you have kids.
There is only one pub in Kilsyth, which is Club Kilsyth, it burnt down at the end of 2005 and reopened at around Christmas. It has pokies ect there.
There are a few pubs in Croydon, and Lilydale which aren't to far away.
It's about 45 minutes or so drive to the city (depending on when you are travelling in).
I use to work in the city and found it quicker to catch the train in. Not really sure what else I can tell you, the house prices are okay, sort of looking at about the $250-$300k for a standard 3 bedroom house with a backyard.
Feel free to contact me for any further questions, as I said I am the next suburb across from Kilsyth. I was surprised when I saw the question and realised that I would be able to provide you with heaps of information on the area.

Others
do some research!
I Visited Australia this past summer ( it was winter there ) and stayed in Melbourne for about 4 days. I absolutely LOVED it. it is my favorite place in the world. i plan on visiting again as soon as time permits.
It is basically a picturesque setting that you only see in movies. and the people there are soooo nice!
i'm sure you;ll enjoy it there if you do end up moving there.
Kilsyth Australia
Kilsyth is the home of the threatened Kilsyth South Spider Orchid, which we are campaigning to save! We now have pictures of this splendid and extremely rare plant.

Kilsyth and Kilsyth South are residential suburbs between Mooroolbark and Boronia, 32 km. east of Melbourne. The name presumably was inspired by Kilsyth, Scotland, but no record has revealed the reason for any such connection.

Kilsyth is in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges and the cleared land was suitable for orchards. The original village centre was on Mt. Dandenong Road, which was the linking route between the Croydon railway station and the Dandenong Ranges. Kilsyth primary school was opened in 1910, by when there was a public hall, store and post office. A Kilsyth and District Horticultural Society was formed in 1913.

Residential settlement along the Mount Dandenong Road grew as weekenders and hillside retreats were built. By 1954 Kilsyth had an estimated population of 1,500 persons. In 1971 a second primary school, Kilsyth East, was opened. Pembroke secondary school was opened in 1970 and a third primary school next to it several years later.

Kilsyth is generously provided with recreation reserves, the largest having a sports centre in Liverpool Road. The Elizabeth Bridge Reserve includes a lake and a community house.

Kilsyth South consists of undulating land reducing to flat land in the west, between Canterbury Road and the Dandenong Creek. Drainage works have enabled residential settlement in parts, mixed with industrial uses, the Eastwood Golf Club and a water-retarding basin. The Ghilgai (Steiner) school is in Kilsyth South.

Kilsyth has a small shopping centre in Mt. Dandenong Road near the first primary school Mt. Dandenong Road is also the address of a Catholic primary school, elderly persons' accommodation, the Linley reception centre and a larger shopping centre, Churinga Village, near the Kilsyth Hall.

Kilsyth's estimated populations have been 1,500 (1955), 4,000 (1970) and 10,250 (1994).

Kilsyth, 32km east of Melbourne

The community is well served with sporting facilities and recreation reserves including the Elizabeth Bridge Reserve which embraces a lake and community house. A pleasant drive east on the Mt Dandenong Tourist Road takes you to Kalorama and the Yarra Ranges Shire Council's Karwarra Australian Plant Garden. Slightly more than half of the 2ha reserve is made up of landscaped gardens, while the rest conserves native grasses, herbs and trees including stringybark, narrow leaf peppermint, mountain grey gum and blackwood wattle.
The Internet
Kilsyth is lovely suburb that, in parts, has a rural feel.
There are quite a few shopping centres in the area. For the person who said Knox City Shopping Centre was 15 minutes away must have timed it during the times when there is very little traffic. The surrounding areas have busy roads. Knox is a very large shopping centre - a town within in itself.
Eastland ( no "s") is also a large shopping centre and close to Kilsyth.
Both have cinema complexes.

Chirnside Park Shopping Centre, isnt as large as the others, but has all the facilities needed. Reading cinemas is next to it and has eight theatres.
I prefer going to this complex to see a movie as it the parking, etc is so much easier.

You will need to have your own transport (a car) if you wish to live in Kilsyth. There are buses that connect to railway stations and take you to shopping centres and complexes, but reliability can be an issue at times.

All in all Kilsyth is a nice place to live with all amenities close by.
Know the area very well having relatives there, and lived in the region for 50 years
