What are the living expenses in melbourne for a houseold without kids? |
Travel Info we are a young working couple below 40 Travel Tips Depends on the lifesytle that you want to upkeep. Before we had our daughter we had a combined income of about 80k and didn't really save anything. We have dropped down to about $55k now and a getting by. Morgage - $350 per week Food - $150 per week Mobiles - $130 per month Home Phone - $80 per month Electricity - $100 per month Gas - $100 per month Water - $100 per month Internet - $60 per month Petrol - $120 per week Insurance - $1200 per year Car Rego - $900 per year RACV Roadside - $140 per year House Rates - $1000 per year Health Insurance - $60 per month Entertainment - minimum $200 per week (movies, dinner ect) Other expensives, clothes, shoes, cd's dvd's, family & friends presents, upkeep of our house ect. I am sure that I have probably missed other things out, but gives you a rough idea. Others Me and my partner recently worked out our budget trying move in together. For two people, paying $200 per week rent (which is no longer doable, even the shabbiest house now rents for over $250) shopping in the outer suburbs (south east) we worked out that we needed around $33,000 per year. That included rent, bills, car stuff, supermarket shopping, chemist bills, ect. On average, we spend around $300 per fortnight at the supermarket. House prices/rent will vary hugely. it all depends on the conditions you have. rental prices are increasing, petrol prices are increasing. it also depends on what part of melbourne you are looking a, generally the eastern and south eastern suburbs are more expensive than the northern and north western suburbs. I am living in the house my parents own and don't need to pay for rent, however, petrol costs me about $50 per week ( i have a small economical car) food can vary, generally aroung $150-$200 per week, thats on a good week. last gas bill was $52, water bill around $150 maybe? electiticty a bit more i think. i really cant comment on the utilities costs, as thats i don't handle that side of things, i do the shopping and all that. but costs are fluctuating and increasing depends on your income and the lifestyle you want to live. My fiancee and i are doing fine on a couple of not too good incomes and we are expecting our first child. We have two car payments and rent at about 215per week... but we are in the eastern suburbs. If you want to go to the city you will be paying a lot for not a lot of house. The petrol is expensive but public transport is quite good in melbourne!!! you can get almost anywhere, any time.
