Travel Tips
The now called Pyramid of the Sun was actually constructed about 1300 years before the Aztec culture even existed, as part of the main city and ceremonial center of an ancient culture of which very little is known. The name Teotihuac谩n (city of the gods) was given much later by the Aztecs who considered the ruins sacred.
As so little is known, we can麓t even be sure if it was dedicated to the cult of the sun, or how it was used by its builders. Although it麓s pretty evident by its location, size and design that it was an extremely important worship place; it麓s by far the biggest precolumbian structure in the continent.
Along with the rest of the site it麓s also very important because it had a heavy influence in the development of many other later cultures in mesoam茅rica, including the Maya and the Aztec.
