Moving to Miami from New York?

Travel Info
iight, so basically im 14 years-old and my dads job offered him to move to miami. He asked me because, both my brothers left the house already and really he just m,eans the best for me. I know live in a suburb of NYC its pretty rich upscale and its bugging me especially with all the preppiness and the cold but i have my friends here and ive already gotten used to it and embraced it and lived her 5 years.
Miami, on the otherhand i have no idea about. The idea seems very appealing especially with it being warmt here and i like change. However, i do not want to move and hten be dissapointed.
Also, myu dad is being very foot-loose let me decide, so he wants me to do some reasearch on where it is best to move. I want like a party, laid back sort of p[lace and he wants a place with good schools so something in the middle would be nice.
Also i would like to play frisbee there and i dont know if they have any teams or anything but that is not that important.

Travel Tips
A huge con in Miami is the traffic. People here drive like drunken maniacs. Also most of them speak Spanish.
The pro, of course, is that it's warm weather all year round, though in the summers it gets pretty damn hot. Then you have to worry about hurricanes (I survived Hurricane Andrew) and of course there's the traffic...
Probably the best area to live in is Coral Gables, if you can afford it (the houses are really pricey). It is a GORGEOUS area full of lush vegetation and beautiful houses, though it has a LOT of rules and regulations. Pinecrest (they have the best public schools, though in all fairness you're probably going to want to go to a private school like Ransom Everglades, Gulliver Academy or perhaps Palmer Trinity) is another good option; it is like Coral Gables except that they lack sidewalks, street lights, and they don't label their streets with a white block on the ground. Plus it has more property, if you want a large yard. South Miami is another option to look into - some areas of it are nice. Also, Dadeland is getting some nice condos built and it's in a great location if you're into shopping.
Obviously, you can go to the beach if you live here (last time I was in NYC I didn't see any). Crandon Park is a nice one, though if you want to see boobies I suggest South Beach.
There is Coconut Grove (which would actually be a nice place to live as well). The Grove is a popular hangout spot for teens, and you don't have that in NYC.
One thing you should not look forward to is a good museum. Our museums suck.
Other than that Miami is a nice enough place and you'll probably like it. It's kinda like a warmer New York City with a bad transportation problem.
Sorry, can't give you the Latin girl's number because I'm white (I know, totally not exotic...but I am dating a Latin guy, I could give you his number if you want lol)
If you like playing frisbee, then the University of Miami is for you. I go there and there are always all these boys playing frisbee in the IM fields. Can get annoying sometimes when you're trying to cut through.
Anyway if you have any more questions just ask me; I've lived in Miami my entire life (soon to be 20 years) and I know pretty much everything there is to know.

i live in miami and i absolutely love it.
i also happen to love new york, but the cold is something i cant stand. miami is gorgeous and south beach is def. the party place. but i would recommend checking out coconut grove, the houses are amazing and its close to everything, which is near the famous coco walk . about 10 minutes to the beach, sunset drive, its just a nice place to live, i happen to live there myself. another area would be south miami which is mostly dominated by middle or upper middle class, and the gables which is known for their landscapes and trees. overall miami has a lot to offer for all ages, you will love it and especially coming from NY im sure girls in bikinis all the time is a nice break from the cold. haha. ive also realized that people here are extremely nice and cultured so im sure youll enjoy yourself and get many..many latina girls #
Miami Beach will be the sopt...It's always summer here plenty of parks and stuff for your frisbee...The beaches are cool but forget South Beach if you're not 21 forget it....Jet skis are always fun...Fort Lauderdale and broward county (north of Miami) is where most NewYorkers settle...PROS..great weather, plenty of space unlike NYC,beaches, once you get old enough South Beach, with so many New Yorkers down here you might run into someone you know, CONS..Hurricans, traffic, you'll need a car not like NYC where you got subways, thats about it...Avoid areas like Liberty City (the pork and beans),Overtown, some parts in Opa Locka..especially at night...dress light beacause it's gonna be hot and humid!!!!!!GOOD LUCK DOWN HERE....
Miami has upper class urban & suburban neighborhoods like anywhere else. I'll tell you right now the problem is schools. Your dad is likely to be disappointed. In general NYC's suburbs have good schools. Miami-Dade's are very uneven. The best schools are (a) very expensive & private, or (b) located in a few upscale areas: Coral Gables, Pinecrest & Palmetto Park in the South; Miami Beach & maybe Aventura in the far North, or (c) one of the "magnet" schools for art, music, design, graphics, etc. which you have to be recommended for, or qualify or audition for. The rest range from mediocre to dreadful. Unless you can afford a private school & the transportation to it, you & your dad should focus your search around the school boundaries. The state of Fla. publishes school rankings (tho' I don't know the web address) so you may want to start your research there.
South Florida is sooooo full of ex-pat New Yorkers, you'll think you never left home except for the palm trees.
I just moved down here from New Jersey and Miami really stinks! As for you being a 14 year old, the flaws that I see will not have an effect on you whatsoever. I feel that Kendall might be a good place for you to finish HS.
