Is Coral Gables Miami a boring place to be? (University of miami Location)? |
Travel Info I am from Philadelphia and I am thinking of going to college in Miami. I am used to diversity..being around city type people of all ethnicities. I am used to the upbeat lifestyle..always on the go with many places in the city to go to...does miami seem like the place for me or not??? Is it really boring and will I miss out by going to Miami Travel Tips no f-in way! downtown anywhere florida is nothing like a city like philly. but that doesnt mean its boring. south florida is all about doing stuff. theres sooo many clubs and such a friggin melting pot of ppl here that i wish it werent so diverse. coral gable might as well be caled miami so dont worry. and UM is in the middle of everything and the beach and the sexy and oh gosh...downtowns so pretty and you can see dolphins jumping in the bay..... VISIT! and decide. but from what youve said its exactly the place for you. ah, i love it here! Others Miami is cool for college students! They have ALOT of places and things to do!!! And if anything, you can drive for about 30 mins North and go to Ft lauderdale too. Have fun, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND MIAMI!! Miami is very happening, but the Gables area can get a little boring, in my opinion. No doubt you'll have some things to do with fellow students, like smaller bars and etc. But if you'd really like to be in a lively place, I recommend South Beach. That's where it's absolutely impossible for anyone to ever get bored, but... managing school while there are 1000 things to do every night can be huh... challenging :) I managed to go to school while partying every night, and maintain a 4.0, don't ask me how! Let's just say sleeping wasn't the highest of my priorities! Coral Gables is beautiful, lots of greenery (trees, hedges) and fairly quiet. But Coral Gables is a small area. There are tons of cool places nearby. South Beach, Bayside, the Keys, lot's of county fairs and festivals for every occasion. Go for it. U of M is a great school. CGables is nice- i live 5 minutes from UM. there's a lot to do as far as restaurants, malls, etc. south beach is about 20 minutes away so if you want clubs or crazy people, there they are! lol i think you'll like it. I am a freshman at UM, and even though I love the city of Miami and all the millions of things to do here, the actual campus is not in the city at all, so it might not be what you're looking for. South Beach is very fun, as is Coconut Grove, but it takes around 25 minutes to get to SoBe, and 10 to the Grove driving... which isn't horrible if you don't mind driving everywhere all the time. However, there is really nothing to do within walking distance of the school. On campus, the most social places to go are the pool during the day, and the library at night (so you can see there's not much stuff happening on campus...). There are fraternity houses on campus, but the University has a strict policy on them having to have all of their parties registered with the school, which makes most parties happen off-campus. I would still recommend you visit though. It is a beautiful area down here and there are so many things to do every night, you just have to drive for pretty much everything. If you have any more questions about UM, feel free to ask me! There is no shortage of diversity and things to do in Miami!!! If you are unsure, you can visit first, but I am SURE you will see diversity and things to do! |
