Vacation? miami florida?

well my fiance and i are going on vacation to miami florida and we arent familier with the area. we have heard stories about fire ants and ghettos. what should we watch out for? and what are some good things to see and do in the area?

There are many great things to see in this area. South Beach definitely should be at the top of that list since it is one of the most notorious locations in the United States!

When you get to south beach, there are different areas. Lincoln Street is a main drag off of A1A. This is a shopping/restaurant/street performer area about one block in from the beach. The food here is pretty reasonable. I would suggest either eating in this area, or Espanol Way which is about three blocks south of here. You will get monsterous meals for a fair price. Unlike other areas of this town :)

There is a very famous area called Deco Drive. This is where the historic hotels and beachfront areas are for South Beach. This is a couple of miles down from Lincoln and a must see. Food here is OUTRAGEOUS in price, so be careful. I have gotten 35 dollar hamburgers here. be very careful hehe. This however is where you will want to head for beach time

There also is Washington Street. This is where a lot of the clubs are. it is definitely worth the experience to go here and people watch for an evening. Some clubs have cover charges and some do not. I can't remember who is who though. You'll have to go around and check.

ahhchoo knows what she is talking about. I would just add (obviously) the beach itself at south beach. I had a good time in a nearby area called Coconut Grove (its full of shops and restaurants too) Be careful, not to far from the Grove there is a pretty rough area. Miami seems to be split into highly rich and quite poor areas not far from each other. If you have time, head out to the Keys. Sawgrass mills is another option.
If ahhchoo knew what she was talking about, she'd get her names right. There is no Lincoln Street, (at least not on Miami Beach); it is Lincoln Road. Nor is there a Washington Street. It is Washington Avenue. "Deco Drive" is a TV Show. The beachfront drive with all the Deco hotels and the Versacci mansion is Ocean Drive. Nor is it 3 miles from Lincoln Road. The north end of Ocean Drive is only two blocks from the east end of Lincoln Rd. And the name for the street between 14 & 15 St. off Washington is Espanola Way.

The only "fire ants" in South Florida are in farming or distant rural areas. As to "ghettos," except for the "Black Grove" which adjoins the "White Grove" the high crime areas are far from anywhere tourists are likely to wander.

Get a guidebook or look up articles on So. Fla. for things to see & do.
Just stick to south beach you will be quite safe from both. However it is still a city and like all other cities they have every walk of life, Use common sense and you will be fine ....Actually better then fine it is a great place for any vacation.
My gf and I stayed in North Beach on our vacation , its much quieter and just short cheap bus trip down to south beach , we enjoyed north beach due to the fact that the food in this area is alot better and about 1/2 the price of the food on south beach , I asked her to marry me on the beach in north beach and we had a blast the whole time we were there , good luck and enjoy your trip
