If your looking to stay on or near a beach, Bahia Honda State Park is the best. The beach is the most beautiful one you will ever see, the water is crystal clear, and it very nice. But if your looking for a really great time with lots of very friendly people, Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge is the place to be. Although, if you gonna make reservations, you probably wont get in till this time next year. Source(s): Personal experience

Other Travel Tips
I'd recommend Key Biscayne. It's not nearly the "tourist trap" that the other Keys are.
Islamorada, Key Largo. Just don't go there in August, September, or October. Those Hurricanes are brutal.

Bahia Honda is great for the beach & not too far from my favorite place in the world. Key West!!!! Mucho to do there from just people watching to eco tours to drinking! Head south!!
There is a place in the Keys called Hawks Cay. It is BREATH TAKING. The last time i was there, they had there own dolphin center where they train dolphins (and you can swim with them for a fee). They have there own lagoon which is very relaxing. The rooms were great and the hotel is clean. It is basically a resort on its own island of Duck Key. There is so much to do at this place that you can never be bored and the atmosphere is incredible. Check out the website. It may be pricey but it is WELL WORTH IT. Key West is a pig pen compared to this place.
