How is it to live in Florida? jobs? cost of living? Education? Would you recommend moving there from Chicago? |
Travel Info I am tired of the bad weather here in chicago Travel Tips Cost of living is ridiculous here. Home and rental prices are forcing many of the areas support workers (teachers, firefighters, police) to uproot and leave because noone that makes a modest salary can afford it here anymore. Unless you bought a home at least 6 or 7 years ago, good luck. There is such a demand for affordable housing that many apt. complexes here in South Florida have converted to condos. Now, with the market going stale, they are stuck with unsold condos due to the inflated prices they're asking. I'm renting a very small 3 br house (under 1000 sq feet) for $1375 and that's from a friend at a decent rate! Many jobs require you to speak Spanish as well. Some of the schools are good, others notsomuch. I would say that if you are successful and living comfortable there, don't move. Source(s): Lifelong So. Florida resident Other Travel Tips ina word, yes m any time you don't have to shovel snow and slip and slide!! and ooooHHHH feelss sooo good!! Florida is great, but if you are a female, youll notice that you dont get treated as good in Florida as you do in Chicago. Youll notice that when you visit. My mother and sister visit Florida and love it, but say they would never live there. My guy friends from chicago visit and move to miami. Cost of living in most major cities and chicago are very similar. South beach will be very similar to living in the gold coast or lincoln park area of chicago. Depends, cost of living is about the same, but you wont make as much money as chicago. If its about lifestyle and you want to enjoy the sun, then yes. If you are career driven and want to make more money, I would say stay in Chicago. Prob, depends on what you do for a living and where in Florida you want to live. I know what i do , i would take almost a 50% cut in pay and over the past few years Florida has sky rocketed in cost of living ( esp. housing ) i know in the 30 yrs. my Aunt has lived down there, her gas was always 50 cents or more cheaper and now it is the same. We are in Mich. and also so sick of the weather, have been wanting to go south for awhile! Good luck! go on- www.realtor.com you can put in the area you are looking- leave the starting price at 0- and it will give you houses, etc. for rent and on up to sales. This will help you find what the housing prices will be for your needs! Good luck! |
