Im thinking of moving to miami after my high school graduation, any advice? |
Travel Info Im thinking of moving to miami after my high school graduation, any advice? Travel Tips This is a really big decision. Miami is very different from many places in the US. The cost of living is very high and speaking spanish is almost a necessity. It is a beautiful place but it can be very ugly at times too, like most places. Hurricane season is from June-November so that should factor into your decision also. The weather in Miami is beautiful during the winter time but in the summer it is stiffling. Don't be dreaming of a white christmas if you move here. Just remember, living in Miami is very different than vacationing in Miami. You will have to work, do grocery shopping, and all the other mundane things that life brings. It is not a 24 hour party Others Don't go. My advice would be - DON'T. It's going to be VERY hot and humid here in the Summer. Go to college first... or you may never find a good job here. Especially if you don't speak Spanish. Good luck. The truth is that Miami is not like the advertising adds. Cops are very corrupt, some people are rude, the majority of the population is over retirement age, jobs a slim pickings, hurricans are frequent, and you better speak spanish fluently (includes reading/writing it). Also Florida, which is were Miami is, is known as, "Gods waiting room" in the US since so many seniors retire there and wait to die. Bad decision. However, it's your life. It's important to be conversant in Spanish but don't try to learn it from Hispanic Miamians: their Spanish sucks. Well... US Spanish in general is a shame. Hope Latin Americans and Spaniards do something about it because that language is beautiful and extremelly important. I think I'd try to find a safer place to live... |
