What do you think about Miami?

Travel Info
I may be moving there next year for a one year position at a public health clinic in the South Dade area. I am curious if most people are satisfied with Miami life...are people friendly, is the traffic as bad as some people say, is it easy to get around, is there a lot of stuff to do (besides clubs and the beach..although I love both), is it really segregated, is there widespread crime, is the city laid out well, etc.? I just want to know what residents of the city think of their city. I have been interested in moving to Miami for a while, but I don't want to move there if most people don't like it.

Travel Tips
These are just some things you need to know:
1. Traffic IS bad, which causes road rage in many people.. but then again what do you expect, its a big city.. if anything avoid working in downtown, it'll be a pain going to and coming from work (I'm talking about 4 hours there and back!)
2. Prices to live in Miami are seriously becoming way too high, even for a small apartment!
3. I don't think Miami is segregated, but I've lived in one area my whole life.. what you will see most are hispanic people, however my mom always warns me about the "black" neighborhoods, so I guess there is some segregation, but its not very visible.. too hard to explain..
4. Just like moving anywhere else you will get to know the major streets, and will be able to get around just fine =]
5. Just like any big city, Miami does have its crime, but its nothing too big to worry about too much.. avoid areas like Hialeah; the people, the places, there are some gangs... bad area.. you'll learn which areas not to go to..
6. People here are not overly friendly, but they aren't mean either.. I mean you will meet nice people, bad people, rude people.. just like you would anywhere else, I would imagine..
7. There is plenty to do! South beach and Miami beach are very popular areas to enjoy their nightlife.. besides clubs are the restaurants.. I love dining out in South beach at night, the restaurants are fun, and you can walk over to the ocean after finishing your meal.. you can look up popular, good restaurants online..
8. Overall, I love Miami, but then again its the only place I've lived in my whole life.. If you can find a place live at a reasonable price, I say go for it and move over here! You will have a good time getting to know the many different hispanic cultures around here, and going to the beach ofcoarse! If anything you'll get used to it over time and learn to love Miami, I know it =]
Others
I like the architecture in Miami Beach (Art Deco) and the people are hot! It's got it's problems like any big city - traffic, crime, but I don't think it's worse than other metro areas. Humid as a hot shower though.
Avoid Miami.
Go to Jacksonville.
I lived in Broward County which is north of Dade County. I lived in South Florida for 4 years. I noticed that people are rude and are a bunch of show offs. They drive the nicest cars but live in the ghetto. Stay away from Hialeah, Kendall. Your best bet is to check out Plantation, Weston, Sunrise, Coral Springs.
Jacksonville is too laid back...and too much like georgia. Go to Orlando or Tampa. I hear miami is expensive (houses, apartments..etc) Yeah lotsa people drive nice cars. I think people are just out there stuntin' and showing off everything they got. Well when I was looking for jobs in florida before I moved here I noticed that cities like Tampa areas, Orlando, and south Florida had more options on the health care and biotech jobs (lab jobs, hospitals and stuff). You can check Jackonville also.. if I was a nurse/doctor I wouldn't work downtown it looks rough. When I was in Miami for a few dyas its easy to learn your way around, just study a map and familiarize yourself with the areas, and know what areas not to go to. Traffic is ok in the day but at night it gets busy and fast
I've lived in Miami for 13 years and I hate it here.
No people are not very friendly, at least the ones I've met are quite rude because people here don't really have manners.
Yes there is traffic because it is a big, overcrowded city. But traffic mostly depends on the time of day and the area you are driving through.
Yes it is easy to get around, especially once you get to know the streets.
That I know off, there isn't much to do besides going clubbing and to the beach. Which, trust me, will get tiresome and boring after some time. There's also shopping and going out to restaurants but that gets expensive. There's a few touristy places to see, like the Seaquarium but you need money for that and, like I said, that also gets boring after awhile.
I guess it's somewhat segregated. There are black neighborhoods and there are hispanic neighborhoods. You should be aware that Miami has an extremely high Hispanic population and Spanish is practicalurly the main language, but don't worry because most people speak English too. There's not that many Americans in the area.
Yes since it is a big, overcrowded city there is a lot of crime. But it's not as bad as people make it out to be. You just have to be careful what part of Miami you're in. Miami has it's ghettos and they have higher crime rates, such as Liberty City, and there are gang areas so just be careful where you go.
Two things you have to be aware of before moving to Miami is the unbearable heat and humidity and the high prices.
Good luck if you do decide to move to Miami (although I don't know why somebody would).
