Miami is going to be a bit cheaper. There is alot less traffic in Miami. They are similar cities. Miami has a better night life but LA has better weather. Miami has Hurricanes, LA has Earthquakes. Both have bad crime areas and safe areas, But LA has alot of Mexicans Miami has alot of Cubans. But Miami also has alot of Haitians, South Africans, French, Russians and other Latin Americans. Miami is the Financial centre of the Americas LA is the entertainment centre of the Americas. Miami also has a large Latin entertainment industry. They are similar and different. It all depends what you want in a city. I live in Miami and been to LA and I like Miami alto more, more of a city life, more like living on the East Coast of the US. It all depends. Miami has alot of employment opertunites, unfortuanatley Spanish is a big plus to get a good job in Miami. Miami is the financial entertainment and transportation capital of Latin America. There are many jobs avaible in Miami from Hotel tourist related jobs, government jobs of course. Banking and entertainment, also Miami is a very big Aviation town. Source(s): Miami Resident.
Other Travel Tips

Miami is just as expensive but far less people and the water is 20 degrees warmer. LA has Compton & South Central, Miami has Opa Lacka and the Pork & Beans so crime is pretty even, far less traffic in Miami and far hotter as well. South Beach blows Venice Beach away. Keys are somewhat close (4 hours) then again Mexico is less than 3 hours from LA. La you can drive a couple hours to go snow skiing which is not even a consideration in Miami. Everyone in both cities speak spainish. Good luck.
Both cities are not very ideal to raise a family. Out of the two none is very family oriented if you plan on having kids. But of course, there are areas away from the craziness of the cities such as suburbs for families to settle down and raise families. In the L.A. area, Orange County would be great. In Miami, the several suburbs in inland Miami Dade County would be ideal to raise families. If you dont plan on having kids, both cities have fun activities, nightlife, and plenty to do.

neither of them offer the same oportunities for "all" professions.

California is a lot more crowded.
Miami has a better living standards ,by far out. but, is very limited to some professions.

it will make no sense to live in a place that doesn't offer employment in Your field of work.(every body is dancing and You are starving? no way.)
Miami, looks more beautiful and less junky. You'd have to have some money to live there though.
i will pick LA because there are so much things to do out there the beaches in miami are much better but i feel like LA has more to offer
in other words u will get bored quicker in miami than in LA
