Is it normal to keep your swimming pool open all year in Jacksonville, FL?

Travel Info
I live in Pennsylvania and wish to move to Jacksonville, FL. Wikipedia states that in months like December, January and February Temperatures range from the 40s-60s with record lows in the singles. Do people close their pools then reopen them when the weather becomes warmer or do they just leave the pool open year round and just don't swim in it in cold weather?

Travel Tips
alright - here's the asnwer from another northerner like yourself.... yes you can have a heated pool open year round in jax - live there now. yes we average 40's - however you get a good few weeks of 20's and 30's. you will find your first two winters - you'll swim and be comfortable in the "cold"however.... then the reality sets in and when it's hits 55 you'll feel chilled and turn the heater on in your car and then shudder - not from the cold but becuase you'll hear the weather and think -- OH NO it's happened -- i've been floridized LOL my neighbors empty their pools or at least cover them for a good4 months a year.

I lived in Daytona - however, my best friend was in Jacksonville. She left hers open - they just cover it with the solar cover.
I know many people in that area who have pool heaters that they turn on only in those months. Even then, if it an outside, unscreened pool, it doesn't become extremely cold.
I live in an apartment in jacksonville and yes they kept the water in the pool for the whole year.. and its not heated. And people even got in it and started swimming on the warmer winter days. in december it was in the 60's at night and i got in the hot tub outside. so i guess they do keep the pools open.. i've only been here for like 10 months tho so its my first time seeing a pool staying open all year too
The hot temperatures heats the pool in the summer time so it feels good to swim. even at the beach
I suppose it depends on the person. All of my friends that have a pool close them during the winter and then reopen them in the spring. And so do apartment complexes. (Unless they're indoor pools, of course.)

I know very few people that would dare to go swimming in an outdoor pool during the winter. It's not cold enough to snow here, but it does get downright frigid during December, January and February. And sometimes in October, November and March. But those three months are rather sporadic.
