The Sunshine State has a great website that you can access that will give you the information you need. To start the process, you must be at least 15 years old for the Learner's Permit to actually learn how to drive.

It also depends on if you have been licensed previously in another state.

Never had a FL drivers license? All first-time drivers in the State of Florida are required by law to take the D.A.T.A (Drug Alcohol Traffic Awareness) course, also known as a Florida drivers ed course, prior to applying for a Florida drivers license. We recommend FloridaDrivingCourse.com as your best choice for Florida drivers ed.

First-Time Driver (D.A.T.A.) - FloridaDrivingCourse.com
Enroll in the FloridaDrivingCourse.com four-hour class from the privacy of your own home and complete it at your convenience. This required course will allow you to learn about how alcohol and other drugs affect your ability to drive, FL laws and responsibilities, safe driving techniques, and how to increase your awareness on Florida's roadways. FloridaDrivingCourse.com also features driving courses for:

* Basic Driver Improvement

Driving is a Privilege - Don't Lose It

There are a number of infractions that can cause you to lose or restrict your driving privileges. The following are of particular interest to teen drivers.

* If you receive 6 points on your driving record within a 12 month period, your driving privileges are automatically restricted to business purposes only for 12 months or until you are 18, whichever happens first. If you receive additional points during this restricted period, the restriction is extended 90 days for each additional point.
* If you have a blood alcohol level of .02% or more (applies to those under age 21), an administrative suspension of six months will result.
* If you are truant in your school attendance, your driving privilege is suspended until you provide proof you have attended school for 30 consecutive days.
* If you are convicted for possession of tobacco products (applies to those under age 18).
