Travel Info Does the MIami Area have any smog ? Travel Tips yea a little bit, you can notice the layer when you fly in the mourning. But for the most part Miami has very clean air for a few reasons. First Miami is low at sea level highest elevation in Miami is 15ft, being low and not having any mountains trapping any air. Also Miami is on a peninsula surrounded by water it is on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean and has the gulf of Mexico no more than 80miles away. Also Miami is a very narrow city only about 16-20 miles wide in the county since the Florida everglades are right next to the city. Miami does not have many large factories which produce smoke. It rains alot in Miami and there are alot of winds which bring many different weather systems into the area which blow alot of the smog away. So Miami is pretty much a smog free city. Cities with bad smog tend to be inland or near mountain ranges, sitting in valleys etc.. LA, Mexico City, Denver are cities is huge smog problems.
