I am planning a trip to montreal in July for five days.? |
Travel Info How is the weather over there in July? Is it easy to get around in montreal without a car? Also I plan on visiting toronto, what is the best way to get from montreal to toronto? What are some of the must see/go places in montreal and toronto? Travel Tips Weather is generally very warm here in July (80-90F) even at night. The subway (called Metro) and bus system is reliable, safe, and clean. Cost is under $3.00 per ride or you can buy a weekly pass to save money. You can get to various nightclubs, restaurants, and other attractions around town very easily. The summer has the Grand Prix de Montreal, Festival de Jazz, Just for Laughs Comedy Festival, and every Wednesday and Saturday are the fireworks competitions. French is primarily spoken in most stores, restaurants, and on the street, but most of us are bilingual. English tourists should be able to find people who will be able to answer their questions pretty easily. Montreal also has its own Chinatown, Little Italy, and a Greek sector. There are restaurants to meet ALL tastes. As for getting to Toronto, by car it is a 5-6 hour drive down the Transcanada Highway. You can take a bus (slow!), a train, or a plane as there are scheduled trips using all these methods daily. I have heard that VIA Rail Corridor train is least expensive and most relaxing, but I have never tried it myself...I just drive there so I will not have to rent a car on the other end. Others Hey, I live in Montreal. The weather in July is beautiful, very hot very nice :) You can get virtually anywhere in Montreal without a car, the bus and metro system here is amazing. Search STM montreal on yahoo and you should get a map of the metro system. Definately visit downtown montreal, there's alot of nightclubs and huge underground shopping (metro station McGill). There's a Six Flags called Laronde, also accessible by metro, I highly suggest it. There are several plces such as the Biodome, Insectorium, Olympic Stadium and Planetarium that are interesting. There's also two zoo's within an hour of Montreal, but if you don't have a car you can't get there. Well there's so much more but I got to go lol. Hope yuo have a great time here! One simply can not do decently BOTH Toronto and Montreal in 5 July days! That's like trying to do both London and Paris, or New York and Washington, or Madrid and Lisbon, or Beijing and Hong Kong. Especially considering how Montr茅al will be in its summer festivals. Otherwise: the other Answers before mine are pretty much correct as far as they go, except for SteveN's comment about Montr茅al restaurants: although otherwise the gustatory capital of Canada with restaurant cuisines from all over the world, there is no - NOT ONE!!!!!!!! - decent (or even 1/10th decent) authentic barbecue (do you want to make millions of $? Build one here!) I am a Montr茅aler. |
