Hotel in the Latin Quarter of Montreal? |
Travel Info My wife, 1 year-old baby, and I are looking for a nice hotel in the Latin Quarter of Montreal for either the last week of June and/or the first week of July. We don't need the fanciest accomodations but would like someplace clean and comfortable. We would also would like someplace that is pedestrian-friendly and has lots of cafes or restaurants nearby, so we don't need to travel far to eat. Close to a metro station would also be nice. Can someone recommend a hotel? Thanks! Travel Tips I was born and raised in Montreal and sorry to say, I never heard of the "Latin Quarter". Perhaps you are thinking of Old Montreal with its cobblestone streets lined with boutiques of all kinds and cafes and fine dining. Whenever I go back, I stay at the Queen Elizabeth hotel or the Bonaventure. Both are close to Old Montreal and other attractions like shopping, McGill University and Mount Royal. Noter Dame cathedral is within walking distance and you can drop in to one of the numerous cafes downtown too. Enjoy your stay and don't forget to one of Montreal's famous Hot Smoked Meat sandwiches or A steamy Hot dog from one of the downtown vendors. (bet you can't eat just one) Others I do not know where the hell Jack came from not to know the Quartier Latin. It is roughly the area served by Beaudy and Papineau m茅tro stations from Sherbrooke Street to the north to Boulevard Ren茅 Levesque to the south. And there are several blocks of old mansions and homes that have been converted into small, European-style hotels in the area. A perfect way to stay in Montr茅al. The area is also closer to the heart of Old Montr茅al than the downtown skyscrapers where the (expensive!!!) Queen Elizabeth and Bonaventure hotel towers are located. Jack is apparently an English-speaker who hardly ever ventured into the more French parts of town, but his advice to savour a famed Montr茅al smoked meat sandwich whist you are here ought to be heeded. I am a Montr茅aler |
