Travel Info I need to move from california to Montreal..what should i do?? Travel Tips Unless you absolutely loath snow and cold or humid heat (much balanced out by our extraordinary springs and beautiful autumns) CELEBRATE your good luck. We have no desert close by but we have loads of natural lakes plus our two wide rivers and consequently no water shortages.. Our mountains are not as high but what is lacked there is more than made up by the brilliant oranges and crimsons and yellows of the Laurentians and Appalachians in September and October. We even have nearby the notable agricultural region of the Chateauguay-Richelieu where the farms are small and loved, unlike the factory farms of the Imperial and Central Valleys, and the produce tastes it. Believe it or not there are more artisan cheesemakers in Qu茅bec than there are in CA and instead of there being efforts to outlaw foie gras we actually encourage its local production. We even have a few wineries; although the quality centainly does not match yours if you drink our white wines when young with our lobster (Qu茅bec and Maritimes Canada, not Maine or elsewhere in the northeastern states, produces 80% of the annual harvest, by the way) it is a delicious match (lobsters happen to be on sale at the markets this week at about $US 7/lb and we ate ours last night!). Montr茅al is like the San Francisco of Canada but even more liberal (with a larger by percentage gay population by the way, but one which never feels need to flaunt it as like the Casto). If you miss Blue-state America from time to time Vermont is only an hour away. And Like San Fran we have a very good public transit system; one does not require a car. There are no real slums in Montr茅al to speak of. Others go for a visit to Montreal first so you can get a little used to it. stay for about a week so you can get used to time and weather. it gets pretty cold so maybe try buying a warm coat and some regular pants if you're used to shorts. if you mean move permanently you will have to apply for immigration if your not Canadian If you do not already have status in Canada as a citizen or permanent resident, and have not already applied for a work or study visa, then that is your first step. This is the official Canadian Immigration website, and there are special specific rules in regards to Quebec, so pay attention to those. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/ It takes an average of 1-3+ years and $1,200 in application fees and associated costs for general Canada Immigration; and it may vary more for Quebec. stay in California...you will hate the winter's in montreal and no beaches... |
