Would you say a cegep is more like highschool or more like a college? |
Travel Info Would you say a cegep is more like highschool or more like a college? Travel Tips If you're living at home, it's more like highschool. If you leave home and live in a dorm, it's more like college. Others It's a little bit more like a college. After you finish high school you decide what kind of classes/program you'd like to take. Some of the programs lead to a job, other, more general ones, lead to university. I live in Quebec Cegep is 2 years. The first year is equivalent to final year in high school in the US/rest of Canada, second year is equivalent to first year college in the US/rest of Canada. On the whole, it's more like junior college. Cegep is like College Here in Quebec, High School would take around 5 years to finish. After that, You choose which Cegep program you would like to take. A normal Cegep program takes around 2 years to complete. Ex: Pure and Applied Science or Social Science. There is also a 3 year Cegep program. Ex: Fine Arts, Science and Music, Accounting and Management. If you choose to go to Cegep here in Quebec, especially in Montreal, Here are some Websites to Help you: http://www.mels.gouv.qc.ca/gr-pub/m_engl... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/education_i... Here are the English Cegeps in Montreal, Vanier College: http://www.vaniercollege.qc.ca/... Dawson College: http://dawsoncollege.qc.ca/ Cegep Marianopolis: http://www.marianopolis.edu/ (Private College. around $3500.00Cdn) John Abbott College: http://www.johnabbott.qc.ca/ I hope that would help you answer your Question. Also, After finishing Cegep, you can enter into the work field depending on which program you finish or Go directly to University to get a Degree. More like a college: greater freedom in choosing courses, teachers treat you like an adult (you don't get in "trouble" for skipping or not doing your work, you just might fail the class), schedules can vary widely, teachers (usually) have a Master's or PhD in their teaching subject, but little or no teacher training. I also found the difficulty level went WAY up from high school to CEGEP, but maybe that's because I went to public HS and private CEGEP. |
