I'm moving to Montreal from the US; where can I find the best exchange rate when opening a new bank account? |
Travel Info Going for school. Travel Tips Yeah, what the other guy said. Besides, thanks to your retard president and our booming economy the exchange rate is just about at par. Others There likely isn't going to be any difference because all the banks get their exchange rate from Bank of Canada. The biggest difference is going to be service fees. All banks will rip you off. You need to go to an fx exchange store. There is one in Eaton Centre and one across the street on Ste Catherine (between University and McGill College). If you will be carrying cash, I suggest you exchange your money there, and then go to a bank, open your account and deposit in cash. If you wire, they will charge you more or less the same. Lived in Montreal for about 10 years... The best place to change is at stores that take American money. They offer better rates, give you canadian change back, and don't charge commission. I recommend Scotiabank - Bank of Nova Scotia. I have used them for many years. |
