Just about 20 minutes outside of the city of Montreal.

Nice, indoor pool, & Hot tub, Tim Hortons and Pizza Hut across the parking lot. Mall across the street.

Usually under 100 US.

No traffic problems etc like staying in Montreal, you don't have to valet park your car like many in Montreal.
And it's just a short drive into the city.

That's what I do when I go, about 2-3 times a year.

Try a small B&B or Hostel. They're usually located between Sherbrooke & Rene Levesque and Bleury & St Denis (basically downtown) and a quick walk from alot of what the city has to offer. I highly recommend hostels, they're quite laid-back and your 13-year-old would probably love it. Just check on the net and then do some background research on tripadvisor.com to see if the place you've chosen is decent.
It depends on when you're making the trip.

And whether your $100/night price tag includes all applicable taxes, etc.

Right now, the US dollar is worth about $1.07 Canadian. Taking into account typical taxes (room tax, GST, PST), you'd need to have a room rate of less than $85 Canadian.

According to Expedia, that means the Comfort Inn located across the river in Laval is the closest/cheapest place to stay. Driving distance to downtown is about 20 km (12.5 miles); it is also about the same distance to Dorval Airport.

It also means you'd have to take one of the smoking rooms - your guest count exceeds the number allowed in non-smoking rooms ... or the price exceeds your budget.

Hotel address is:
2055 Aut Des Laurentides
Laval, QC H7S1Z6 Canada
There are quite a few inexpensive hotels in downtown Montreal (I listed a few at the bottom). You have to remember that most prices don't include taxes (which come up to about 13% puls 2$/day hotel taxe). Also, in Montreal, parking is not included at most hotels and can be expensive.

Outside of Montreal, I suggest Longeuil or Brossard. They have innexpensive motels and the parking is usually included. If you stay in there, you can take the metro (subway) into Montreal (there is a parking at the metro that is only 3$ per day). The metro is actually the best way to travel in Montreal: its easy to use and safe.

Hope you have a good time!
