Travel Info I'm going to Mcgill university this summer. What's the closest beach from Mcgill? and How long does it take to get there??? thank you :) Travel Tips The beach at Jean-Drapeau Park - about 10 min from downtown montreal by the subway. Others McGill University is on the island of Montreal. The St. Lawrence seaway flows past us to the south, and to the north is the Mille-Isles River. In BOTH cases, I would not consider bathing in the river as it is rather polluted and you are likely to come out of there with some sort of rash. However, there are a few public beaches nearby that may be of use. There are some man-made lakes on St. Helen's Island that you could cool off in or sunbathe beside. You can also rent kayaks or pedal boats to use. The island also has a (pay-to-use) water slides park at La Ronde (Six Flags). These are all accessible by taking the subway (Metro) on the Yellow line to Station Jean Drapeau. The only other public beach I know of nearby is Oka Beach in Oka Park on the north shore. It is on the shores of Lac des Deux-Montagnes and is about 45min out of Montreal by car. There is a commuter train that can take you to the town of Deux-Montagnes, and then you can take a rural city bus to Oka Park. There is also a beach for the Super Aqua Club in Pointe-Calumet (just before Oka), but to use it, I believe that you have to buy admission for the day. I believe the closest real beach, a nice one, is actually on the riverfront, at Oka. By car it is about a 35 minute trip when traffic is moving, but can be as much as 1 1/4 hours when traffic is heavy. There is a train that goes from downtown Montr茅al to Deux Montagnes, a village only about 8km from Parc/Plage d'Oka but I do not know if there are any busses from the train to the beach. |
