I am planning to move from vancouver to montreal (in april) to cook, what should i expect?

Travel Info
i am looking to get a job cooking, i need an appartment, and i dont speak much french yet.

Travel Tips
First of all, French is the official language in the province of Quebec. Although I consider myself more as an Anglophone,I always try to speak French whenever necessary. It's like going to someone's house. Would you insist that your host drinks coffee when they want tea?
Please leave your ignorance at the border.
It's true there are pockets of Montreal where English is almost exclusively spoken, but if you want to further your option to work, it's highly recommended that you learn some French. Besides, it's never useless to learn a new language.
Caveat: I believe the hourly rate is lower in QC than in BC

Others
you will be seeing a lot of french people and culture. However, you notice the weather the most. when it's 10 degrees in vancouver it will be -10 degrees in montreal.
I have only heard about Vancouver (and hope to visit there someday...) However, Montreal is one of my FAVORITE places to visit, February, or any other time of year... I heard tho that there is an English neighborhood, is it the west Island? Doesnt matter tho, nearly everyone understands English anyway, they just refuse to speak to you in it... but they are more than happy to take your english speaking money (snobs). Regardless, It is a lot of fun there, and lots of history and fun things to do... I hope to go back more and more over the years... Of course, I also hope to learn more and more French... but I assume once you are submersed (sp?) into that culture - you will learn faster... especially when you get sick of them being Sh*tty to you because you spoke in english to them.

There are lots of funny things there tho... Like PDK instead of KFC.. and such - but then, I am from the states, so everything seems a bit off kilter when I go to Canada [ Thats why I love to go there!!!!!!!!!!!!] and I get sick of the conservative idiots in the states. { If I could deal with cold, I would be moving to canada permanently!} Love to all Canadians!
