Im traveling from usa into canada for 10 days do i need passport ,other I.D.or money? |
Travel Info us citzen is pic i.d, enuff ,how much cash in pocket is needed if any , are there any hidden fees i should know about can i take merchandise in or out of country , how long does it take to get a passport if needed Travel Tips Living near Detroit I go to Canada about once a month. (sometimes overnight but never that long.) You don't need more then your I.D. to get to Canada, but you DO need more to get BACK from Canada. Take your birth certificate! FOR SURE. I don't know if it's a problem to go for 10 days, but shouldn't if you're just visiting family or something. Also, the US is setting up tougher security that will require a passport or special ID card. Oh sorry, yeah, I forgot to add... there's usually like a 2 buck fee at the bridge/border crossing, nothing major. You have to claim any firearms, tobacco, and alchohol. (DONT TAKE ANY EXCEPT CIGARETTES IF YOU SMOKE) Don't take any fruit or wood! (oddly enough) There's a duty free shop at the border crossings, where you can get rebates on gas and all sorts of other things. Remember, Canada has a lot more OPEN spaces then most of the US areas you're used to. Keep your tank pretty full. MAKE SURE YOU STOP at the stop sign in the stall, it'll be like a few car lengths back. Don't pull past it, they get angry. Be friendly and answer quickly. They'll try to ask you questions they'd think a terrorist wouldn't know or be able to answer quickly like... after they say "where are you going" and you say something like "to visit my family" they'll say "what's your uncle's name?" A terrorist will say "uhh, uhh..." and you'll say "Steve" and all will be good. Also, they have like ALL authority over everything. They're even allowed to rip apart your car, and everything. So don't SCREW with them at ALL! Others A passport will take you a few months to get. I live in Detroit and when I went to Canada we were allowed across with our state i.d., but it's safe to take your birth certificate along with you if you're going to be staying for a while. There was a toll on the bridge, but I don't know if you have a bridge where you're at, other than that it doesn't cost anything to get across. As for what you can bring back over, certain things aren't allowed but you'll have to ask the border patrol to make sure what is and isn't. |
