St. Catherine - all the shops, Montreal-style Times Square. St. Laurent - Hip mixed crowd bars and shops St. Denis - Bars more of a francophone scene Old Port of Montreal - Nice restaurants and worth taking a walk. Av. Mont-Royal - Nice little Shops, cradle of Montreal French Population, if you want to get the feel of Motreal. Oratoire St-Joseph - Enormous Church on the Mont-Royal, you have the best view of the city from there. Stade Olympique - close to Pie IX metro station - A building with an amazing architecture and a suspended roof, on the plus side you can go up the tower which is about 12 floors high. Mus茅e des beaux-arts - Catherine the Great exhibition Mus茅e des arts modernes - Anslm Kiefer exhibition Basilique Notre-Dame - close to the old port - a massive church, worth going in it is beautifully decorated Westmount - If you like driving around, mansions dating back to the 1800s p.s. walking downtown is fine, the proof is that I'm still alive even though I go every day p.p.s. The tam tam (drums) are on the av mont-royal just before you go up to mountain, it's during the weekend if it's sunny because it's outside. p.p.s. If you go in a grasy spoon ask for Poutine it's our national meal Source(s): Life in Montreal Other Travel Tips Walk up the Mont Royal park to Beaver lake (lac des castors), go to the old town and drink some local micro brewed beers. If you enjoy wonderful food and old buildings, Montreal is the place to go. C'est Bon. Try a fresh bagel or a deli sandwich or the heavy creme recipes. The coffee houses are always good. you can drink a beer in the central park and watch the pretty people go by. Climb the mountain on a sunday. I don't know if they still do it, but they used to have a bunch of drummers get together on the Mount every Sunday. Riding or walking downtown can be dangerous, they drive like madmen, kind of like how it was down in Costa Rica. If you are fast on you feet, fine, otherwise take a cab or bus. Be sure you know a few phrases in french. The night life is wild! I will say no more on that topic. The old churchs are works of art, as well as all of old Montreal. I guess it depends on what you want to do. The girls are always prettier in Montreal. Wonderful art and if you are lucky you may get to see and hear some buskers perform. I hope that is a start. Depends on the kind of fun you want to have. man the bars are wicked in monteral if you want to have some fun go there. but dont piss off the locals. and try to learn some french before going up there because quebecers dont really like americans at all so be discreet. |
