Where Can i find Hockey Schools? |
Travel Info Hi...I'm 15 years old and i've never played hockey in my life..i can barley skate, and i'm going to montreal this summer..where can i learn hockey and how much does it cost? Travel Tips Tough question! The vast majority of hockey schools cater to kids who already play hockey and, not surprisingly, in Canada people tend to learn how to play hockey when they are very young (aged 5+). You may want to take some skating lessons as well, and there are usually a lot of powerskating sessions during the summer when kids are out of school. Keep in mind that none of this is cheap! Your average 1-week powerskating program will run you at least $100 and often more, and hockey camps are usually at least double that amount per week (not including any equipment). I have included a link below to a Montreal community portal that has sport and recreation brochures from some of the many different recreation associations in Montreal. Most of the information is in French. Your best bet is probably to call a local hockey association when you get to Montreal, or find out where you will be staying and get in touch with them before you arrive. They will know who is putting on workshops and skills programs in the area and will be able to direct you according to your abilities and what you want to learn. Of course, I remember when my brother was your age, he and his friends played street hockey a lot (and still do when they're home for holidays from university). You'll get to learn the rules that way and how to play but you won't have to shell out a lot of cash for equipment and training. Maybe there will be street hockey (also called "ball hockey") programs during the summer where you will be staying. Check into that with local community centres. This ended up being longer than I thought it would, but I hope some of it will be helpful.
