hmmm...
Jan 1 New Year's Day
Jan 2 Extra Holiday and store employees' chance to get some rest
Feb 2 Groundhog Day, because you just KNOW spring's right around the corner
The nearest Saturday before March 17th, St. Patrick's Day parade and green-beer-drinking-fest
April-ish Good Friday
April-ish Easter
April-ish Easter Monday (usually the holiday)
May-ish OMG! It's finally spring!
The nearest Monday on or before May 24--Fete des Patriotes, commonly known as May 2-4 Weekend, in honour of the settlers from Nouvelle-France and of a case of beer. Anyone calling it Victoria Day outside of Westmount or Beaconsfield will be boiled in oil.
Early June--Stanley Cup victory (okay not this millenium)
Early June--Grand Prix Weekend, a few days of making fun of Europeans' accents and clothing
June 23--last day of school
June 24--Fete Nationale du Quebec. The only people allowed to work are the inspectors who make sure no one is working and people who sell beer. Anyone calling it St. Jean Baptiste Day will be given a stern talking-to.
Late June-beginning of July: Festival Internationale de Jazz de Montreal. Giant street party.
July 1: Moving Day. Anyone calling it Canada Day had better be moving to Westmount, or better yet Ontario.
Last two weeks of July: Construction holiday. Half the city goes on vacation, either clogging the highways or in Balconville.
early August-ish: Yay! It finally rained!
first Monday of September: Labour Day/Fete du Travail
Second Monday of October: Thanksgiving/Action de Graces. Once I didn't go to work on Thanksgiving, but make no mistake, stores are indeed open! oops
December 24th--Christmas Eve
December 25th--Christmas
December 26th--Boxing Day (stores open at 1pm but the line-ups for the sales start at 8.)
December 31--New Year's Eve.
