You can't just show up. You can study if you apply from the US. You may like to see if you can do it on a tourist visa but I don't think so. When you study you can work a bit. Or look for an under the table job... Yes, you could. You can find some pretty cheap appartments in Montreal and also it's a really nice place with friendly people. I strongly encourage you to come here. For the job, yes there are job offers at Montreal even if you don't have experience. However, you'll most probably have to learn french.
