Do I need a passport to fly to canada?

Travel Tips
US residents do not need a passport to enter Canada until next year. You are traveling this year, so you don't. (But there has been pressure to have one, and that preasure is increasing as we get closer to that deadline.)

What does matter is what airlines you are traveling. The policy is up to the airlines.

You need to inquire when purchasing tickets. And if you purchased tickets already, they should have informed you of their policy.

Here are 2 sample policies.

Air Canada: a valid passport is the preferred document but for a Canadian or US citizen an original birth certificate or a citizenship card/certificate plus a valid government issued picture ID are also accepted.

United: U.S. citizens traveling to Canada
U.S. citizens traveling to Canada are strongly encouraged to carry proof of their U.S. Citizenship. One of the following documents are accepted:
Passport Birth certificate Certificate of Naturalization Source(s): http://www.aircanada.com/en/travelinfo/b...

Yes
yup
As of December 31 of this year, you will be required to have a passport to go to or from Canada, South and Central America, Mexico, the Carribbean and Bermuda. On December 31, 2007, you will be required to have a passport for ALL land and sea travel to and from the US, period. Hope this helps, and have a happy trip!
With heightened security these days, yes. If you are flying out of Canada or into Canada you have always needed a passport.
If you have a passport, it makes things soooooooooo much easier. If you have a certified copy of your birth certificate, I would bring that and your Driver's Licence / State ID card. I haven't found anything on Canada's Customs website that says exactly what you need, just that you need to prove that you are a citizen or certified permanent resident of an approved country.

(I'm assuming you are from the US.)
