What are the "must do things" in Montreal? |
Travel Info I am going to visit Montreal the 7th of September and would like to get some touring tips. What should I do, eat, visit...? Travel Tips The first response is accurate. I second the Old Port as a must! It's very beautiful and there's a dinner cruise offered, and it's well worth it. Just ask when you get there, it's very cheap. I would also add visiting some place like Bernard Street in Outremont. It is just off Park Avenue and there you will find many upscale restaurants, or should I say bistros, where all go to be seen. It's actually a very romantic european type atmosphere. Outremont is mostly inhabited by French people from France and you get that feeling when you're there. After supper at one of the French bistros (Moulerie is very popular if you like seafood) hop over to Bilboquet, where home made ice cream is so delicious you'll want to buy the buckets of it. As for restaurants in general, try everything. This is your chance to try as many ethnic foods as possible, as Montreal is known for it's diversity and quality. If you want to experience a true Greek atmosphere, for example, go to Mythos on Park Avenue. This place has live entertainment on weekends (bouzouki music) and amazing food. Try the "kopanisti" it's a dip made with feta and hot peppers and it's pure heaven. If you like oriental food, particularly scezcuan (or however you spell that), try Hot and Spicy on decarie close to Namur Metro. This place opens after 5 pm, and the decor is formal. You pay about 30$ Cd per person and you get all you can eat served at your table. They bring you amenu with all these cool dishes like wrapped duck, peanut butter chicken, sweet and sour pork, all types of shrimps. GO THERE! you will not regret it! Another nice restaurant is Baton Rouge. There's a few around the city, two of which are downtown, one on St Catherine on Place Des Arts. This place is known for it's amazing baby back ribs, and they have an amazing bar too. If you're not a rib fan, they have amazing burgers too, and chciken platters. There's also 24 hr delis, worth a try if you're in the mood to stay up and eat late. Chenoys is by far the ebst 24 hr place. There's one in Pointe Clair (close to Dorval airport, relatively close anyways) and one in Laval (which is an island close to Montreal). If you're into breakfast, try serre Picassos on st jacques. They serve breakfast 24 hrs!!! And they serve alot of it. There's also Chez Coras, which is well known here. It's only open until 3 though and they have some exotic stuff. They can be found all over town. If you're into nightlife, all you have to do is take a walk on Crescent street, and you'll see plenty of bars and clubs. There's lots to do here, lots to eat here, lots to drink!!!! Have fun!!! Source(s): Montreal Resident Other Travel Tips Welcome to Montreal! Here are some "must do things". - Old Port. It's a unique concept in the world. St. Catherine Street is also a must for shoppers. - The Botanical garden, including the Japanese Gardens and the Insectarium, is located next to the Olympic Stadium. At the stadium, don't miss a visit to the top of the tower. It's the tallest inclined structure in the world, about 170 meters high.
