Applying for jobs in Montr茅al? |
Travel Info I'm about to start applying for work in Montr茅al, but I'm wondering whether it is better to hand out r茅sum茅s in French or English? The r茅sum茅 I usually use is in English, and clearly states that I am proficient in French as well, but I'm worried that an English r茅sum茅 might turn some employers off right away. Any thoughts? Travel Tips It depends on the company and the job. For most large companies in Montreal or Quebec City, it doesn't matter much, since most people are bilingual. Outside of these cities, I would say definitely use the French resume. If you are applying for a government position, use the French resume. And in general, I would recommend that you hand out your resume in French. Officially, businesses in Quebec operate in French. Sending them a resume in French gives more credibility to your proficiency in French. Also, the person reading your resume is probably more like to be francophone and they are the person who you are trying to impress. Others Have you found one yet. It depends on the company/job you are applying for. Though Montreal is bilingual, it is still in predominantly French-speaking Quebec. If the company you are applying to is predominantly catering to French-speaking clientelle, your chances are better when you hand them your French resume, and similarly the other way. If your education clearly shows that you studied in one language, then you can safely put more weight in using the other language for the resume. Hope this helps... and good luck with the job! Why not make up a bilingual resume? That would impress all employers. If the prospective employer conducts business in French or English, he is sure to have customers of the other language. This way, you immediately demonstrate your qualifications. |
