Another question about going to canada temporarily and working for the time im there? |
Travel Info Ok let me see if i can word this out... im going to spend around 6 months in canada living with my boyfriend and i want to get a temporary job up there... i've been reading up on it and I see that I'm going to need a work visa, but will i need a temporary resident visa too? because on the cic website it says under a temporary resident visa im not allowed to work, however I also cant get a work visa until i have a job offer and to get a job offer I assume i'll need to do some interviews while in canada, but isnt this going to somehow cause a problem with customs since i wont be giving an exact return date? Do i just tell them I'm going to be looking for temporary work? how does this all work?? Travel Tips You will have to have a job lined up prior to applying for a work visa. If you want to go to Canada first, and look for work while there, and you are only staying 6 months, by the time you GET a work visa, you will have already gone home. So, your choices here are: 1) Visit without a visa, and without working. 2) Visit with a Visitors (temporary resident) Visa, and without working, in which case you will have to show financial ability to stay for whatever period of time you state you are coming for. 3) Line up a job while still in the states, apply for a work visa, hope it is approved, then go visit when its all done ... this will probably mean you won't be going to Canada for at least 6 months from now, quite possibly longer. Unfortunately, those are the facts. You will have to make your plans in regards to the regulations in place. I understand, been there, done that. International relationships have their own hardships and obstacles, but can be well worth it if it's a good match! Others What nationality are you? |
