Going Quebec First time- Need Suggestion?

Travel Info
We are going to Montreal first time, need suggestions about vacation rentals: http://www.alwaysonvacation.com/details/... should we use vacation rentals or hotels?

Travel Tips
It depends on your budget. Some hotel chains are relatively cheap, Holiday Inn, Comfort Inn, etc. I usually stay at the Delta anywhere in Canada, there are 2 locations downtown, the most convenient one being on President-Kennedy Street. Most motels I know are crappy. Downtown, you may find some small hotels, they used to be on the cheap side, like Hotel Pierre or something like this on Sherbrooke near St-Laurent. I never stayed in a vacation rental anywhere, so I don't know. B&B are always a good option. Try to stay near a metro station, it will then be easier and way cheaper to hit the good spots in town.

Others
speak french
Montreal has a large selction of B&Bs; I prefer them. They're also a lot cheaper than US B&Bs, or even the hotels.

For hotels, I prefer the Delta.
It depends when you go. In the summer the weather is very good and camping is cheap and easy, especially if you travel away from Montreal or Quebec City, say to Gaspe. Bed and breakfast too is cheap compared with UK France etc. You need to speak French a lot of the time if you do this.
Personal experience
Most hoteliers speak enough English to be able to help. There is this bizarre and, frankly, silly notion that absolutely everyone in Quebec speaks only French.
That is not true, especially in the travel and tourism industry.

I used to live in Montreal, though, and I can tell you that your biggest concern won't be anything to do with languages but the absolutely horrifyingly awful traffic in and around the city! Negotiating construction sites on the highway with their random lane closures will take nerves of steel and a grim determination to make it in one piece!

Don't worry about French, although it would help you if you learned a few phrases.
