When are you leaving? Where are you trying to go in Montreal?
Your easiest bet is to fly - but that will set you back a few hundred - $389 according to Hotwire.com if you leave on 11/8 and return on 11/13. $329 if you leave on 12/6 and return on 12/11.

I tried Amtrak - the Montrealer is out of business because Amtrak.com couldn't recognize the Montreal train station.
I believe that Amtrak (regional, not the Acela) to New York, then switch to the Montrealer, is cost competitive to busses, a little faster and much more comfortable.
