Travel Tips
The spinning beam is Place Ville-Marie 1

This is the second tallest building in Montreal
(After Tour SITQ - 1000 de la Gauchetiere)

It is about 636 feet high and a warning to aircraft that may hit the building, a main light in the Montreal skyline. It is also used as a decoration and the major landmark for modern buildings. Source(s): Visits to Montreal by me

Other Travel Tips
a warning for aircraft that there is atower there
The Beam in Montreal, Established in the 1930's dates back to when Montreal was mainly used a boat and trading port. It gave way to where the Island of Montreal was so boats would'nt miss it. Now days, it is mainly used for airplanes so they do not hit Montreal's more modern skyscrapers.
